Walt Disney cruise

Costa ClassicaCosta ConcordiaCosta Marina

A Walt Disney cruise is a cruise like no other. It has all the trimmings of a normal cruise but with the magic of Walt Disney thrown in. Walt Disney cruise lines are an American cruise line company owned by The Walt Disney Company and headquartered in Celebration, Florida. It is run as part of the Walt Disney parks and resorts division of Walt Disney world.

The company was set up to cater especially for children and families within the cruising industry and as such their boats and destinations are all catered towards children and families. Although the ships are furnished in the typical Walt Disney decor there is something quite magical about the Walt Disney cruises. People of every age will enjoy a Disney cruise.

Walt Disney Cruise lines operate two ships, the Disney magic and the Disney wonder. Both ships are almost identical and are designed with children in mind. Each ship has different areas designed specifically for different age groups.

Walt Disney cruise ships

The two Walt Disney cruise ships in the fleet are almost identical with slight variations in restaurants and entertainment venues. Each ship has 875 luxury state rooms and can hold approximately 2400 passengers and a crew of 945.

Both ships visit castaway cay, a private island retreat owned by Walt Disney resorts. These two ships are the only cruise ships on the planet that visit castaway cay and that kind of exclusivity guarantees that the customer service on the island is always up to Disney’s high standards.

The two ships offer all the usual luxuries that come with a cruise as well as the addition of children’s pool areas and a whole host of family and children oriented entertainment. All the favourite Disney characters are on board the ships and walk around just as they do in the Disney resort parks. Both ships are decorated with Disney art work and statues.

Castaway cay - A Walt Disney cruise

No Walt Disney cruise would be complete without a visit to the Walt Disney owned island in the Bahamas’. Castaway cay is the private island owned by Walt Disney resorts and is an exclusive port of call for the two Disney vessels.

The island is developed as a shipwreck and the facilities on the island are created to look as if they were improvised. It looks great and there are a whole host of activities available for guests including snorkelling, parasailing and bicycle hire.

The island has three beaches to cater for everyone. One is for adults, one is for small children and one is for families. There are facilities exclusively for the ships' crews including beaches and recreational areas. Boat captains, drivers, landscapers, and maintenance personnel actually live on the island and are supplemented by crew from the ship when one is in port. The ships themselves bring supplies in for the island inhabitants and sea water is desalinated for drinking.

Castaway caye has a pirate ship permanently docked that children and adults alike can explore and play on.
